Dance Alive!

Welcome to the tenth BloodThirsty Vegans newsletter. April 2010 Edition. The BloodThirsty Vegans (BTVs) is a musical family that makes music (sweet, sweet music) about peace, love and understanding to unite the human family, foster respect for the interconnected web of life, and remind the tribes how liberating it was to dance the dances of freedom.

Currently the BloodThirsty Vegans are My Rap Name is Alex, Janna "MC Vendetta" Willoughby, Dave Harter, Ben Sachs, Bryan "Brrrn" Lohr & Kaitlyn Marie Gardner and sometimes Michael Delaney or Liz Bailey.

Contacting BloodThirsty Vegans directly is pretty simple. We are all regular visitors to our facebook page. We design and operate our own website at bloodthirstyvegans.com that comes complete with message forums where you can leave messages for the band as well as other BTV friends and fans. And we also maintain pages on myspace and twitter.

and the Lyrics are...
BloodThirsty Vegans love feedback. One bit of feedback that we have gotten on more than one occasion goes a little something like this, "I know you are saying some really cool stuff, but I can't make out what you're saying."

We have three significant developments that we believe will help with this situation:

  1. Dave has been aggressively pursuing a really awesome sound system that will help our vocals sound much better at shows where we bring our own sound.
  2. We have a brand new CD coming out this month, AND, not only are the lyrics very clear in the recordings but ALSO, Janna somehow managed to fit the lyrics to ALL of the songs in the liner notes.
  3. And at the same time, Alex has been diligently compiling all of the song lyrics (including lyrics to songs that aren't even on our new CD) and posting them to our website.
Hopefully that will do it, but if anyone has any more ideas, please let us know.

New BTV web pages
With a new CD about to come out we are creating a ton of promotional pages on lots of different music sites. We are hoping to get a sense of which ones are worth continuing and can actually help new people discover our music. We still intend to have our facebook page and our message forums on our website be our main avenues for connecting with our friends and fans, but we are also hoping to add some YouTube action some time in the coming months. WE haven't uploaded any videos of our own yet, but we are in the process of favoriting all of the video with us in them (even the embarrassing ones). So please subscribe to us and friend us and post comments and give us whatever YouTube love you can.

We have also set up pages on
Reverb Nation - www.reverbnation.com/bloodthirstyvegans
iLike - www.ilike.com/artist/bloodthirstyvegans
OurStage - www.ourstage.com/profile/bloodthirstyvegans
last.fm - www.last.fm/music/Bloodthirsty+Vegans
and we hope to soon add Bandcamp and Pandora. If anyone has any ideas on which other sites are useful, or any ideas on how to get the most out of the sites we've joined, please let us know. We'll be monitoring all of those sites for a little while. I think they are all looking for more music lovers to sign up and listen to the music they broadcast so check em out if you get a chance.

Let the Feast FINALLY, ACTUALLY Begin
Did we mention we have a new CD coming out? Had we mentioned that before at some point? Well, thank you for your patience with our birthing pains for this CD. But it is finally finished. We assembled some over the weekend. We are signing and numbering the preordered copies as we speak. We will be shipping out the preordered copies in the beginning of April. We will be selling copies locally (at shows and such) by the time the Lizzard Ball rolls around if not before. And then we will have a HUGE, AWESOME and AWESOMELY HUGE CD release party on April 30th -- afterwhich we hope to have the CD available online and in whichever indie record stores decide to love us.

Please note there will not be a Dance Alive for the month of April as the venue has a Good Friday Service scheduled.

The Loft, Show Recap:
The Loft is a legend now; a legend that will live on in Buffalo folklore for its parties of epic, smoky grandeur. The BTV’s were lucky enough to be a part of the Loft’s last hurrah on Feb 26th before the music stopped there forever. They enjoyed themselves so much that they died after the first song. Then, they reanimated and played a great set. Lots of musicians joined us on stage for the night including Anal Pudding, Hunger Anthem, At Sea and many others.

Powder Keg Show Recap:
On a freezing snowy stage, BloodThirsty Vegans rocked out for thousands of WNYers at Buffalo’s first annual Powder Keg Festival. Crowds were massive with people coming from all over to tube down the closed skyway and to wander aimlessly through the largest ice maze in the world. This gig was so big that our bassist broke his car window after locking his keys inside so he could make it in time! Despite some troubles with the stage monitors (we could not hear ourselves well at all) we pumped out some dance music for all who could shimmy and shake and had a great time. Thanks so much to those who came out to support us!

Dance Alive Recap:
Dance Alive keeps getting better. David D. Yuhnke came out of nowhere with an awesome homemade sample sequencing system. We plan on recording some of our more outspoken youth at the next dance alive and utilizing their phrases, thoughts and stories in a musical way. The food was great as always and the sound (we’re told) keeps getting better. Keep your eyes and ears open for more Dance Alive events. We’ll be trying to add some more youth activities (like our screen printing activity) to the event this summer.

Listening Party:
The Listening Party was a shining example of love in the BTV community. Our friends and supporters traveled downtown to eat food and listen to our new CD with us. Liz (our saxophone player) was even here (All the way from Boston)! We played our new music video for "Do You Even Know?" and we held a raffle to raise money for the show venue: The Vault. There was a lot of happiness in the air and we left the event feeling great about where we’ve been and where we’re headed. No doubt, we’ve got the best fans a band could ask for!

Writers // Artists // Musicians
It was the final day in March. The spring thaw was on and thing were really heating up in Buffalo. BloodThirsty Vegans were just finishing up a hot set and performing our last song of the evening: Buffalove. MyRapNameIsAlex rapped the lyric "We don't need brie cheese / got knee cheese soon / we dance with Buffalo Girls by the light of the moon" and then glanced up and saw the night sky --there inside the building. Next, MC Vendetta --quoting a line from a Digable Planets song-- rapped "We like the breeze flow straight out of our lids" and a very stiff cool breeze blew in from the back door and cooled off the band. Yes, for a brief moment in time the BTVs were so hot that they were influencing reality through their song. And that was only one of the ways that the night was magical. Thanks a bunch to Kevin Fitzgerald for filling in on bass for us.

Human Family Tee-Shirt Sales will donate $30+ to Doctors Without Borders this month. Thanks to generous support from Janna, Bryan, Leslie and Kate.

Thanks again to everyone who preordered our CD, Let the Feast Begin, or plans to buy it when it comes out. We hope you like it.

Thank you to everyone who has helped us set our 6th consecutive monthly posting record on our forums. We went over 1,000 posts recently.

Thank you to all of the people who came out to see us in March and late February. The BTVs have already performed in front of more people in 2010 than we did in all of 2009.

If you have some time, please take a moment to check us out on our new YouTube & Reverb Nation pages, and check out our new "My Band" tab on our facebook page.
